The numbers here don't add up especially the rents. These days one has to pay north of 3000 eur in the city centre for a good 3 room apartment and if you want luxury nothing short of 6k. Outside the city centre as well nothing less than 1300 to 1400 and a decent 3 room one for about 1800.

Andrew on Dec 02, 2022:

Crazy to see people spending 1000 Euro a month on food. Shows how unrealistic this site is. I eat quite healthy and only spend 240 euros on food per month at most. That's 60 euros a week.

Jacques Amsnl on Jun 19, 2022:

Very much take "rent prices" with a grain of salt. I am currently looking for a flat outside of the city center of Vienna for myself and my spouse using Willhaben + a relocation company, and there is nothing below 890 EUR/mo.

The other flats are all for people who are receiving government assistance or government regulated flat which requires a special application. This estimator is probably taking into account those apartments which are advertised but not available to all members of the public

Hi,
I wanted to know the salary breakup for a 50,000 salary in Vienna, Austria. We are a married couple and one of us will not start working right away as my partner is in the process of getting a job offer. This is the offer I have received. Please let me know if this will be enough for both of us. We are fine living in a one bedroom apartment too.

(Video) How much does it cost to live in Vienna, Austria - the BEST city in the world 🇦🇹

@B.

Salary: approx. 1900 net each month, 2200 net on the 13th and 14th payment (as they are taxed less)

Rent: you should be fine around 1000
Utilities: 100
Internet: 30
Food: depends on you, but I'd say 200 per week including occasionally eating somethin out

Medical:free
Insurance: depends what insurance you are referring to, medical insurance is covered by the employer
Mobile: 20

TV-tax: 25 per month (if you own a TV)

B. on Jan 20, 2021:

I'm looking into possibly moving to Vienna and would love to know if the following information I found is correct for two people without children:

INCOME
Salary: 40k per year equals 2.9k gross and 1.9knet since you're paid 14x a year?

SHARED COSTS
Rent for 1 bedroom appt.: 1000-1500 p/m
Utilities: 100-200 p/m
Internet: 15-35 p/m
Food: 750-1000 p/m
TOT: 950 - 1400 per person p/m

PERSONAL COSTS
Transport: 365 p/y
Medical: free or set aside 100 p/m?
Insurance: covered by company?
Mobile: 20 p/m
TOT: 150 p/m (avg)

So total costs p/p would be 1100 - 1550 p/m?
Am I missing any costs in this list?

Thanks!

(Video) Is LIVING IN VIENNA expensive? How much does it cost to live in the World's most liveable city?

Hello Michele health insurance rates have risen due to the pandemic.Currently one must have 100,000 eur in health care insurance instead of 30,000 as before. My monthly premium is 450 eur each monthjust for myself compared to 150 eur as before. As an expat it's mandatory.

MArtin on Mar 08, 2020:

@Xia

Monthly salary is usually paid 14 times a year in Austria. Moreover, the 13th and 14th salary are taxed very low, so your net salary is higher.
Thus, it's better to calculate with yearly figures. The gross/net calculator of the Ministry of Finance will help you: https://rechner.cpulohn.at/bmf.gv.at/familienbonusplus/#bruttoNetto_familienbonus (unfortunately only in German).

For your two children you will also receive monthly child benefit (for both currently a little more than 260€) plus other tax benefits. Apart from that, they are insured for free in your public health insurance.
So you will get along with your salary better than you think. However, everything I have written here does not apply if you work for an international organization (UN, EU, ...) and therefore their rules apply.

Nevertheless, the problem is the rent. 1300€ in the 19th district for 4 rooms seems ambitious to me. But the rent depends on the duration of the contract. Unlimited rents are expensive, the shorter the duration, the cheaper the rent must be.

@Xla I am living in Vienna and I would say that the prices are pretty spot on and very accurate. I'm not sure if you need 1k for food alone but you can do you your own calculation based on the market prices mentioned.

Xla on Jan 13, 2020:

Hello,

We are a family with 2 children, aged 10 and 7 and we are thinking to relocate to Vienna. According to Numbeo, for a decent/medium life style we would need 2189 EUR, without rent, without vacation and 5% of the time eating out (very rarely - the lowest option) only in cheap restaurants, low car driving.
I've looked a bit for rents on willhaben.at for 4 room apartment in a decent district (district 19 for example) and prices are close to 1300 EUR per month, total rent.

So living expenses in Viena including rent would be 3489 EUR.

I am in discussion with a job which offers around 3650 EUR NET per month, according to official salary calculator. I will be the single earner in the family in the first 1 - 2 years. So we will use almost entire salary just to be able to live in Vienna, without being able to save anything.

Is Numbeo's estimation for cost of living correct ? For example it estimates around 1000 EUR per month just for food at home, which seems pretty high.

Same story across the world. Africans and Asians taking over with a mix of Chinese. They are ruining the world. Because of the increased costs of security, no go areas and making it essential to travel by taxi or private car and over use of health facilities and destruction of culture and school system, they make private healthcare and schools a necessity. It is the same across the world and is getting worse as these people flood in to take advantage of hard won western lifestyles.
